Fendon's experienced craftspeople can bring new life to your cherished wood, upholstered and antique furniture. After learning and teaching himself the lost art of
custom furniture reupholstery over 50 years ago, Jerry Fendon, still oversees our expert furniture restoration team today. Our talented team of furniture artisans has nearly 100 years of combined furniture reupholstery, wood refinishing and antique furniture restoration experience. Take a look below to see some examples of our refinishing and reupholstery work.
Wood Furniture Refinishing Antique Restoration
Regardless of whether you have a favorite, but worn-out piece of wood furniture, a
family heirloom or an antique piece of wood furniture, more than likely, we can restore it
to its original beauty. We've seen the whole range of wood furniture restoration projects
from the antique hall storage bench which literally came in pieces (see below) to
furniture that was in fine shape, but the owner just wanted to change the color of the
finish.
Our master wood refinisher and restoration craftsman, Ramon Hernandez, has over 20
years experience. His ingenuity in repairing, restoring and refinishing wood furniture is
remarkable. Together with Jerry Fendon's years of experience, they form a remarkable
wood furniture and restoration team. Fendon’s never cuts corners when working on
your cherished wood furniture and furniture antiques.
When we refinish your wood furniture, we completely strip off the old finish and then reglue
and re-dowel any wood joints that are not completely sound. We then prepare the
wood for new stain or paint per your preferences and go through a multi-step finishing
process. We make sure the hardware works as well as it possibly can (old or antique
hardware doesn’t work like some of today’s new hardware) then prepare it for delivery
to your home, vacation home or condominium.

Resturant Boothes, Cars and Boat Seats
Many reupholstery shops simply place some new padding or filling over the existing
cover or old upholstery fabric and then apply the new upholstery fabric. Fendon’s has
never taken this approach when reupholstering a customer’s furniture. When we
reupholster your furniture, we strip it down to the frame and springs so we can check
the condition of the frame, glue joints, the spring system and the foundational padding.
Any loose wood joints are re-glued and re-doweled as necessary to restore them to
original soundness. Springs are re-tied, re-stretched or replaced as necessary and any
padding that is not in excellent condition is restored or replaced.
We then cut and sew new patterns and pieces for your furniture and apply them with
time-tested methods only the most experienced furniture artisans employ. Patterns
in fabric are matched, exposed wood is touched-up or refinished as needed and
cushioning materials are restored or replaced according to your (our customer’s)
requirements.

There are many reasons why you might want to consider reupholstering your older or
favorite furniture including some of the following. Quality – most older furniture is made
much better than the furniture of today. In fact, it is usually heirloom quality and
oftentimes, it is made from 1 ¼” hardwood with dowelled and glued frames. Frequently
it has an eight-way hand-tied spring base which is simply the best seating foundation
available in upholstered furniture. Occasionally, the cushion materials will be high-grade
foams and/or down and feather cushions. But even, if it isn’t heirloom quality, it is
likely high-quality and can still be worth reupholstering.
Reupholstering is inexpensive if you compare it to today’s low cost and sometimes
“throw-away” furniture. However, if you compare the cost of reupholstery to a new
piece of equivalent quality furniture, it can be 25% to 50% of the cost of a new piece of
furniture made with the same quality. Reuhpolstering furniture is attractive too due to
the creativity and customization that is available to you when you reupholster your
furniture. We can reupholster your furniture to be just like new or we can modify it with
frame and/or cushioning modifications. We have hundreds and hundreds of fabrics for
you to choose from too. The choices really are unlimited!
Regardless of whether you have a family heirloom you want to reupholster and restore
or just a favorite piece of furniture that “fits you well,” reupholstery is an option you can
consider with no cost or obligation because we offer free estimates (we charge for insurance estimates). We’ll either come
out and see your furniture in your home, bring fabric samples and give you an estimate
or you can send us digital images and dimensions and then stop by the store to choose
fabrics. Either way, we’ll give you a no obligation free estimate (we charge for insurance estimates). We frequently do
furniture reupholstery jobs for customers from Lone Pine to Lee Vining including Bishop
and Mammoth Lakes. Call or email us today to find out more!
